Terms of Service

Last updated: August 20, 2026

These Terms govern your use of Controller Lab, an online platform where you practice accounting work inside a simulated company. By creating an account or using Controller Lab, you agree to these Terms.

1. Eligibility and your account

You must be able to form a binding agreement to use Controller Lab, and the service is intended for adult learners and working professionals. You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information, for keeping your credentials confidential, and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use.

2. What Controller Lab is

Controller Lab is educational simulation software. The companies, employees, vendors, customers, documents, and transactions in the platform are fictional and exist to teach accounting workflows. Nothing in Controller Lab is individualized legal, tax, accounting, audit, investment, employment, or other professional advice, and it is not a substitute for the judgment of a qualified professional or for your employer's policies and controls. Do not enter real confidential employer data into practice tasks.

Certificates and completion records issued by Controller Lab acknowledge that you completed practice work on our platform. They are not a license, professional designation, accreditation, or continuing-education credit, and we make no representation that any third party will recognize them.

3. Your license to use the platform

Subject to these Terms and to any access you have purchased or been granted, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Controller Lab for your own educational purposes. You may not:

  • share, sell, sublicense, or transfer your account or access credentials;
  • copy, republish, resell, or redistribute curriculum, task content, documents, or certificates;
  • scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or use automated tools to extract platform content;
  • reverse engineer, probe, or attempt to bypass access controls or grading logic;
  • interfere with the service, upload malicious code, or attempt to access other users' data;
  • use the platform for anything unlawful or abusive.

4. AI features

Controller Lab includes AI-assisted features such as the Ask Billy coach, Resume Rocketship, and Interview Buddy. AI output is generated automatically and can be incomplete, outdated, or wrong. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying anything you rely on or send to a third party, including resume and interview content. We do not guarantee any hiring, salary, employment, exam, or professional outcome, and AI feedback is not professional advice.

5. Intellectual property

Controller Lab, including its software, curriculum, task designs, source documents, branding, and certificate templates, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. These Terms grant no rights other than the limited license above.

6. Your content and answers

You keep ownership of the content you submit, including task answers, drafts, and resume or interview text. You grant us the right to store and process that content to operate the service — for example to grade attempts, save progress, produce feedback, provide support, and improve the product. Do not submit content you do not have the right to share, or content that is unlawful, infringing, or offensive.

7. Purchases, payment, and refunds

Program access is sold as a one-time purchase at the price shown at checkout, in the currency shown. Payments are processed by Stripe; by purchasing, you also accept Stripe's applicable terms. You are responsible for any taxes, bank fees, or currency charges that apply to your purchase. Access is granted to your account once payment is confirmed.

Refund policy. We offer a 14-day satisfaction period on program purchases:

  • Requests must be made within 14 days of purchase by emailing help@thecontrollerlab.com from the address on your account.
  • A full refund is available if you have completed less than 25% of the program at the time of the request.
  • If you have completed 25% or more but less than 100%, we may offer a partial refund at our discretion.
  • Once a certificate of completion has been issued to you for a program, that program purchase is no longer refundable.
  • Approved refunds are typically processed within 7–10 business days.
  • We may decline refunds where we detect abuse of this policy, credential sharing, bulk content extraction, or repeated purchase-and-refund patterns.

If a refund or chargeback is approved, we may revoke the corresponding program access and any certificate issued for that program. Mandatory refund or cancellation rights under the law of your place of residence are unaffected.

8. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, if we detect abuse, credential sharing, fraud, or a security risk, or if payment fails or is reversed. You may stop using Controller Lab at any time and may request account deletion by contacting support. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.

9. Availability and disclaimers

We work to keep Controller Lab available and accurate, but the service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that grading, curriculum, or AI output will be free of mistakes.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities, or lost data arising from your use of Controller Lab. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the program access giving rise to the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

11. Third-party services and links

Controller Lab relies on third-party providers (for example payment processing, sign-in, hosting, email delivery, and AI models) and may link to third-party sites. We are not responsible for third-party services or content, and your use of them may be subject to their own terms.

12. Changes to the service and these Terms

We may update the platform, curriculum, and these Terms as the product evolves. When we change these Terms we will update the "Last updated" date above, and continued use after that date means you accept the updated Terms. We will not retroactively reduce access you have already purchased without your consent or a refund as required by law.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by applicable law. Any mandatory rights you have under the law of your place of residence remain unaffected. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve any dispute informally.
